I have a guillotine pendant, purchased on Etsy, that I wear. I also only shop small businesses and eat at local establishments. Every day should be Small Business Saturday.
I use Goods Unite Us as a guide for what and where to buy.
Of course we have We Stand with Ukraine lawn signs and bumper stickers. And I call my reps.
#9, protect yourself by not being honest with everyone: how do you feel this out? Ask them first how they're doing? In small groups, sometimes I assume we're all like-minded or "safe," but then I wonder, what if person x was actually a MAGA hardliner? What about activist groups where there may be "infiltrators"? Not being paranoid, just cautious about retribution.
This is a great list, and I've shared it with lots of like-minded friends. In particular, I like what you said about speaking out when someone asks, "How are you?" -- and simply sharing why things aren't going well. There are so many ways to make our voices heard if we have the courage to speak out. We can't go on pretending things are "normal" when they are not.
Thank you for these realistic, constructive, actionable items! I plan to implement as many as can. I think I will also create a series of social media posts copying each of your suggestions, crediting you, and linking to this article. Thanks for helping us move the needle in the fight against authoritarianism!
I forgot to add that boycotting feels productive. It gives me great satisfaction to boycott Amazon, for instance, in addition to local Trump-supporting businesses. Back in the day, I used to order anything and everything on Amazon, sometimes out of pure laziness. Now I seek out the manufacturers of the products I need and order directly from them -- which insures a fresher product and no more old expiration dates. I've written an essay on boycotting here on Substack, and got ideas from others who are doing the same. Now that the economy is even more uncertain than ever (!), boycotting makes more sense while it helps save money.
Please be careful about printing QR codes that you will put into public spaces! It's very easy for bad actors to make a sticker with a different QR code on it and cover the original one to send people somewhere else.
Thank you for this list, very helpful as I’m feeling very much alone in a new place. (Got rid of my red “friends”). I’ve found a few groups and events, so I’ve decided to make Jedi rebellion cookies to hand out at rallies for my 💙 peeps. 🙌🏼
Hi! Thank you for attempting to track all the protests going on nationally. I am having enough of a time just keeping up with my metro Area. We have over 33 protests this week alone. I'm including a link to a list just to give you an idea of the number of protests that are happening weekly in the Seattle area (we had an addition 25+ protests on April 19; there will be more on May 1), but this is the list for this current week alone. Many of these never get listed on the national sites. I put a list together every week in a public FB post. Here is this week's:
Use the Candle Signal. Place an LED light in your window, every night, as a signal that you are aware and resisting. It will give hope to others and show we are not alone.
I've heard some people wonder about mobilizing groups of people, like perhaps climate, education, etc. folks and to rally or sign petitions and do more as a group. What are your thoughts on that?
Speaking of flags, I've been flying the Star Wars Rebel Alliance flag on my front porch since 1/20/25. Fight fascist fiction, always.
Love that.
Thank you for this very helpful list!

I’ll peruse the list again for more ideas.
Thank you for the Goods Unite Us tip. I am trying to avoid Amazon, Walmart and Target. Go Costco, too! The didn’t kiss the Ass-et

I hope our empathizers in other countries will join us in boycotting big tech American HQ'd firms.
We all need to keep talking about it, encouraging others to do exactly that!

Yes: Scams and hacking are issues. Thanks for this warning.
Thank you!

Per usual, I really appreciate this post. Thank you!
Wow...these are good. Keeping and sharing the list for reference prn!!

I think this a great idea. For some towns, like ones close to national parks, this makes a lot of sense.
Is there a way to share these with my postcard writing group, most of whom are not on Substack?
If you hit the arrow button near the heart and comment, it will give you a link to share in a text or email.
Thank you so much. I really like some of these and will implement. Will not be asking my city about writing with chalk though. I’ll just do it.
I have to put that disclaimer in there in case someone tagged city hall. LOL!
Hah! Understood. Hopefully rain will wash away the evidence before too long. Rinse and repeat.
How did you find a postcard writing group? /gen
