If you’re reading this, you have likely heard about the national protest scheduled for Saturday, April 19; however, like many, you have found it challenging to obtain information.
Not to worry. I have done the digging for you.
BTW… My name is K. I write a weekly list of ways you can dissent. From protests to at-home acts of resistance, I collect it all into one place. Subscribe.
THE 4-1-1
The Hands Off protest on April 5 was a joint venture between Indivisible, 50501, and Women’s March, as well as hundreds of local and regional groups. Per Alt National Parks, they had, “20,000 coalition members across the country helping to monitor safety at events and collect attendance counts from local authorities.”
Their final tally was 5.2 million protesters gathered across 1300-ish locations.
Saturday, April 19 is a national protest led by 50501 with local and regional groups hosting protests. At present neither of the websites used to organize the last protest, Hands Off or See you in the Streets, have posted involvement. HOWEVER, several local Indivisible groups have added sites for April 19 to the calendar (see below).
SO WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
Protests are happening. GO!
Though, it may not have the same level of national backing as April 5, there may be millions of people hitting the streets next week.
If you loved that day, and want to see a similar events in May or June, I urge you to let the organizers know,
, Women’s March, and Indivisible. Consider volunteering or donating to make it happen.WHERE ARE THEY HAPPENING?
This weekend, I will release a list and map of locations for April 19, which I will update throughout the week. It will be a collection of data from several sites.
Until then, the below sites have protest locations listed.
50501 has 120+ sites listed for April 19. DO NOT search by state. The system will only search by city.
Mobilize (a virtual bulletin board for activism) has several sites listed. These are being hosted by local groups. Check it HERE.
No Voice Unheard does have a handful of listings. Check it HERE.
Tesla Takedown has weekly protests. Go to one.
See you April 19, and until then, keep on dissenting.
I got an e-mail from my local Indivisible group about a march in Santa Rosa, CA. I have also heard that there is a goal of 9+ million people this time. If everyone who was at the April 5 event returns and brings 2 friends we will reach that goal!
Unfortunately the message on 50501 has changed to a day of service. I have no issue with them doing that activity but NOT when 4/19’was picked up by Newsweek and Rachel Maddow as another national day of protest. We don’t need volunteers. We need a shared meeting point. Nothing for Sacramento.
