THANK YOU. I cry almost every night, worried for my kid/her job, our retirement, how anyone -- EVERYONE -- in their right mind can possibly survive this horrific time in America. THE AMERICA I USED TO KNOW has changed -- for the worse. And we MUST GET IT BACK.
This is a beautiful post. Thank you. The journey for me from terror-and-uncertainty to fear-uncertainty-solidarity-and-resistance has been a fairly quick one, when looked at in terms of my lifetime. It is thanks to the excellent perspectives, caring, community-building, and reporting on our actions and victories, from you and other Substack writers that I have developed the courage to get out to rallies, to meetings, to phone banks, to making banners and so many signs. I feel better on weeks when there's something concrete I can do, rather than reading all the terrible news. And there's something to be done every day! So it's just a matter of gauging whether it's a self care day or a fix this f-ing nightmare day. Today is self care.
For our household, we take strength from the immortal words of Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto after his nation attacked Pearl Harbor - he was sure of the magnitude of their mistake: “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve”.
Giants leave the deep footprints which come with irresistible weight. Anyone care to take a stroll?
Together, we WILL take our nation back and we WILL expel this corrupted infection which is flailing and failing in its effort to turn us into an authoritarian regime.
Lock arms - Elbows up - Stay strong - Tomorrow is ours!
I loved this post. Thank you for sharing it. Such hard, sad, horrific times, and I still can't wrap my head around it all - everyday there's a change, and it's not good. I feel so sad for all the people - everyone-impacted in different ways. It's so comforting to see on substack that I'm not alone in my feelings.
Use this spreadsheet as a resource to call/email/write members of Congress, the Cabinet and news organizations. Reach out to your own reps, as well as those in other states on a specific committee important to a topic you’re sharing. Use your voice and make some “good trouble.”

Things worthwhile are hard to achieve.
The work is hard.
Deep breath in. Deep breath out.
We will face our fear and save our communities.
Thank you for this.

I’m glad this encouraged you. Their stories help me as well.
