The No Kings Count is... 4.1 to 5.2 Million & State by State Totals
The state-by-state counts from No Kings Day—documented and cited
Today, after weeks of gathering data, cross-checking, and citing the data, I am thrilled to announce that a team of volunteers and I have finished compiling the counts from No Kings Day.
4.1 to 5.2 MILLION
We have numbers from 92% of the 2,300 estimated sites.
4,011,609 to 4,999,296 protesters have been counted.
Using the averages of the last 500 sites counted, we can project the final number to lie between 4.1 to 5.2.
This is incredible news! No Kings Day is the second largest single-day protest in US history. The largest in 50+ years. Scroll down to see the state-by-state list.
What can we do with these numbers? Encourage one another. People need hope. I have created a state-by-state list to show the counts for each city. CREATE graphics. ADD them to newsletters. You have my permission to use these counts to encourage, to inform, and to learn. Please, cite us as your source.
Speaking of sources, 50501 Florida, Activate Maine, and this spreadsheet for Vermont, supplied several of our counts. Also, G Elliott Morris worked with others to create this spreadsheet. It helped us find counts for several small towns.

HOW CAN WE GET A COUNT FASTER?
On July 17, we would like to release the count within days or less. To do this, we need two things: volunteer counters and organizers reporting.
VOLUNTEER COUNTERS | Be a counter at your next protest or search for counts after the protests. Both requires a little training.

To give a 3-10 hours a month gathering protest counts using search engines, MESSAGE ME.
ORGANIZERS | Invite organizers to report their counts. SHARE this story or CONNECT US by messaging me.
A QUICK NOTE: There is a second count that conflicts with this count. My count is public to remove questions. I invite updates. Also, I am human and make errors. Let me know if I have. If you have additional questions, see the FAQ section.

FAQ
How do you determine counts?
We receive counts from three sources: Form submissions, volunteer counters, and volunteer researchers. The first two are primarily attendees and organizers. They submit a high and low estimate for their protest. Volunteer researchers collect counts after the demonstration using a combination of news articles, organizer posts on social media, and lists reporting numbers from states. We cite our sources when possible.
Who we count?
We count people participating in the protest, not a driver who honks. Though these are encouraging, this count is of participants demonstrating.
However, if a protest involves a caravan (such as in Tucson, AZ) or drivers with signs who loop the block several times, they are counted. This list is not meant to capture every person who dissents. It is meant to capture the people protesting on June 14.
How do we resolve conflicting account?
If we receive counts that conflict, we resolve these two ways. First, we research. We seek for news stories or additional sources to verify the count. Second, we list the numbers as the low and high estimate. If we receive a count of 5,000 from the local police and 8,000 from the organizer, we list those as the high and low estimates.
What about 13 million? Is there a path to that number?
While 13 million Americans may be dissenting on a regular basis, the estimates do not support 13 million protesting on June 14.
Here’s why.
We can easily verify counts from the 100 sites with the highest participation. They dominated the nightly news, as well as social media. My count reflects the highest estimates reported for these cities (Boston-1,000,000, LA-200,000, etc).
Combined, these 100 cities constitute 63% of the count. They total 2,525,830 to 3,067,749 with 92% of the 2,300 estimated sites reported. If the count were to reach 13 million, suburbs and towns is where the remaining 10 million+ would lie.
The data we collected does not support this.
The remaining sites would have to average 4,648 a piece to hit that 10 million mark. They do not. They average 730 to 950 a piece. Even if we missed 1000 pop-up protests in rural towns of 100 a piece, that only adds 100,000 to the count.
This count may be off by 100,000 or even one million, but too many of our counts come directly from the organizers themselves or have been verified by published sources for me to believe that we are off by 10 million.
Our numbers are in line with the estimate by Indivisible of 5 million. Should other groups produce their data, I will compare and, if needed, print a retraction.
Based on the people who actually registered because I think a lot of people showed up who did not register. It would be great to have drones, taking pictures of the crowd and then doing a crowd estimate from that.
Thanks for all this hard work!! An interesting stat (perhaps?) would be the % of protestors of the total population of each state
